Devore

The cellulose or cotton part of a fabric is removed, the pile from a velvet fabric, the shine from a satin fabric, or leaving only the silk threads in a silk/cotton fabric. Cut work can be made easier if the stitching is done with a silk, polyester or metallic thread as the fabric can be removed and the stitching remains.

 Fiberetch

This is a product designed to make these special effects easy for home use, £9.95.
£2:75 a sample of paste
£4:95 including three A5 size pieces of fabric, for experimentation.

Apply a thin layer of gel to the area to be removed.
Allow to dry, this can be done with a hair dryer.
Dry iron on reverse of fabric, wool setting or less, until the fiberetched area is brittle.
Rinse under running water, rubbing lightly, to remove fabric.
